Yellowstone National Park: wildlife |
|
The chance to see wildlife is one of the highlights of Yellowstone, especially with young'uns along.
Always keep a respectful, and safe, distance between you and the wildlife!
If visitors disturb elk and moose, the animals won't be able to eat properly. Sounds like a no-brainer, that we should leave them alone: yet people constantly crowd the animals. Our guides at Austin-Lehman Tours politely reminded people about proper viewing distances (25 yards, and 100 yards for bears): don't hesitate to do likewise!
Below are pictures of bison, elk, a park ranger program (don't miss those), and the aftermath of fire in Yellowstone.

What kind of wildlife will you see? In the Hayden Valley, you'll surely see herds of bison (buffalo.) You'll see elk too, perhaps even at the park entrance; elk often lounge on the lawn by the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel. We also glimpsed a wolf and a marmot, watched a moose at a distance, marmot and even spotted a grizzly (which, sadly, appeared to have an injury.)
