Yellowstone Family Adventure: rafting
Whitewater rafting was an exciting part of our Yellowstone Family Adventure, but didn't take place in the Park itself; rather, the Yellowstone Raft Co. is based Gardiner, Montana, just outside the Park.
The trip began with instructions on how to behave in the raft. The company expects that many of its clients are on their first raft trip; also, many children go on these outings, so rules for safety are made very clear.
As befit a "Family Adventure", our course was an easy one on the Yellowstone River-- but even a little whitewater is exciting for kids! We were on the water for approximately two hours. The company also offers a "rocky, challenging" ride on the Gallantin River, and a Madison River trip with a hot springs soak.
Many Family Adventures make a point of being "multisport": your family can sample multiple activities in one trip; and you don't have to arrange a single detail yourself.
Rafting is sure to be a kid-pleaser. In calm stretches, hot passengers could cool off with a dip. After we disembarked, Austin-Lehman provided lunch immediately, on the spot. Next on the agenda on this last day of our tour: horse-riding.
