photos & tips for Yellowstone Lake Hotel |
The Yellowstone Lake Hotel dates back to the days when guests visited the Park in stagecoaches: the property first opened in 1891.
Today, the hotel has been restored to the classy looks it flaunted during the 1920's. Architect Robert Reamer-- who designed the rustic Old Faithful Inn-- didn't create the Lake Hotel, but is responsible for its look: he added the white columns, false dormers, and other features that give this lakeside hotel its decidedly un-rustic unique character. Above is the front of the Yellowstone Lake Hotel, and wide porte-cochere.
To the right is a suitably classy taxi parked in the porte-cochere: one of a fleet of such taxis that took hotel guests touring in the Park. (To create this unusual set of wheels, a touring bus was fitted onto a 1956 Ford chassis.)
