Chico Hot Springs Hotel

trip review: Yellowstone Family Adventure Yellowstone National Park: photos & tips-- Starting Page

The last day and night of our Yellowstone Family Adventure was spent outside the park: rafting the Yellowstone River, horse-riding through rolling hills, and staying at the Chico Hot Springs Resort in the intriguingly-named Pray, Montana.

Chico Hot Springs Hotel

This hotel, built in 1900, is a delightful place, with a fascinating history involving an odd-couple of owners: a teetotaler wife, who disapproved of the bar run by her more Bacchanalian spouse.  Wife Percie and husband Bill Knowles hosted such guests as Teddy Roosevelt; but when Bill Knowles died in 1910, Percie and her son turned the hotel into a medical facility. Later the hotel changed hands... but sightings of Percie's ghost persist, on the third floor of the rambling hotel.

Below is the swimming pool that's fed by degree hot springs. Its warm waters are irresistibly relaxing: after ten minutes in the pool, you scarcely have the energy to swim across! The pool is open from 6 a.m. until midnight, every day of the year.
