Bozeman, Montana |

Bozeman,
Montana is a launching point
for visitors headed to the north entrance of Yellowstone Park. (Big
Sky Ski Resort is nearby, too.) If you take an Austin-Lehman
tour, you'll find yourself spending at least one overnight in Bozeman. Here's
what to expect.
First, the airport is ideal: attractive, with decor like a ski lodge; and so small that line-ups don't exist. (No shuttle-bus to town, though-- but some hotels offer free pick-up.)
Bozeman itself has some modern sprawl (Walmarts, etc.), and a Main
Street that's where a tourist will want to be. Main St. has fine old
buildings: some funkiness remains, cheek-by-jowl with upscale shops serving
affluent visitors and the ultra-wealthy buying million-dollar ranches in the
area.
A good bet for family eats in Bozeman is Burger Bob's: great prices, add-your-own-fixings, refillable pop, and plenty of old-timey atmosphere. There's many other eating choices, too.
Be
sure to visit the interesting and free Gallatin County Pioneer Museum, where you
can learn about town founder John
Bozeman (who chose this spot at the "gate of the mountains" as a
fine place to get rich selling supplies to "the tenderfeet" coming
west, and who was murdered under mysterious circumstances); you can
also photograph your children in a jail cell. If you have more time, visit the Museum
of the Rockies: 4.6 billion years of history is on display, with lots of hands-on fun for
kids.
See the Bozeman Chamber of Commerce tourism pages, or Go Bozeman, for info.
