L is for Legoland
Legoland California-- in Carlsbad, one hour
south of Anaheim/ Disneyland, or half an hour north of San Diego-- has
been picked by Forbes as "one of the best theme parks in the world",
and is both a
128-acre shrine to Lego blocks and a theme park with over 50 rides and
attractions.
Designed as a "country just for kids" aged two to twelve, Legoland has rides
including a Dragon roller coaster, and mini-lands such as Ancient Egypt made
from some of park's 30 million Lego blocks.
Legoland has special attractions for 2-year-olds 3-5 year-olds (such as Volvo
Jr. Driving School), 6-13-year-olds, and rides for the whole family.
Though the focus is on younger kids, teens can book a session at
MINDSTORMS, where they can build robots in a program created with MIT.
Legoland California is not the world's only Legoland: the original is in
Denmark, the birthplace of the toy building blocks. Other Lego Lands are located
in Windsor, England, and Germany.
