Quebec Winter Carnival - photos

photos of the Quebec Winter Carnival - 2004

Other activities at the Quebec Winter Carnival include a Parade that typically takes place on two different places on different weekends (--check for updates--) and an annual Canoe Race across the icy St. Laurence River, below.

Other races include a dogsled race (La Grande Viree), and kids' soapbox races, below.

But the best race of all is the one in which any visitor can participate: on the giant ice slide in front of the historic Chateau Frontenac. Cost is $2/person*; go in the day, and enjoy the fabulous view of historic Old Quebec and the St. Laurence River; then go again at night.

Last but not least in the pleasures of Carnival is the chance to wander the streets of Old Quebec, both the High Town, and Low Town (below, seen from the Break-Neck Stairs.)

Wander by day, or night: crime is no problem in Quebec City, and during Carnival you'll have the company of other families enjoying themselves and tooting the red plastic trumpets that signify Carnival.
