Here's the perfect way to slip some history about NY's immigrant past to an unsuspecting teen: a guided tour at the Lower East Side Tenement Museum.
The actual tours take place across the street, at the 97 Orchard Street tenement building. Above is the museum shop-front (-incidentally, it's the setting for the pawnshop scene in Men in Black.)
