| Negril Beach, Jamaica | |
Negril's cliffs are a very different setting for a holiday, and for obvious reasons don't suit families with small kids.

However, it's worth making a foray with older kids, for the opportunity to snorkel and see colorful fish and even bits of coral, right off the cliffs. (The off-shore coral reef has better snorkeling, but requires a boat outing that will cost approx. $25/adult, $15 for kids.)
How do you get to the cliff area? Your hotel might recommend a driver; or try the licensed cabs that go up and down Negril's traffic artery, Norman Manley Boulevard: look for the registered red license plates.
Most places on the cliffs have restaurants plus lodgings: have lunch at thatch-roofed Xtabi, for example, and snorkel while you're there. Your child needs to be old enough to climb down a short ladder into the water. My nine-year-old just managed it.
The cliffs themselves are made of coral: the imprints of innumerable organisms can be seen if you look close enough.
