Oahu: Bishop Museum, Hanauma Bay, & more |
|
Not personally experienced, but recommended:
|
9) Bishop Museum Hawaii has an amazing history: ancient kings and queens (who surfed as part of the royal life), missionaries who "came to do good and did right well" (i.e. their families grew wealthy and controlled the islands for centuries), waves of immigrants brought in to work plantations... The Bishop Museum -- located in Honolulu, and reachable by bus-- runs the gamut from Hawaiian rain gods to a planetarium show on the Space Station. Check web site for exhibit updates. |
| 10) Hanauma Bay snorkeling The Hanauma Bay Nature Park is actually a State Underwater Park, and is known as a popular snorkeling spot. |
| 11) Climb Diamond Head Read all about it, at About's Hawaii for Visitors site. |
| 12) Atlantis Adventures Explore the underseas on a real submarine. |
| 12) Take a Walking Tour There are some maginative walking tours, such as Haunted Honolulu, or Mark Twain's Honolulu. |
| We also sampled: |
Kualoa Ranch This could be a good visit if you pick the right activities. Full-day visits include two or three activities, plus a basic buffet lunch. Many kids will enjoy a horse-riding experience; many older kids love ATS's. Movie Set Tour (Jurassic Park, etc.) sounds promising. This place has a good bedrock of scenery and history; but choose your activities with care, and suss out some recent opinions before signing up. |
