| Wyndham Orlando: Grounds
& Restaurants Hard to believe that International Drive throbs nearby, when outside your room is a quiet lagoon with ducks. Two-story units are grouped around central garden-like areas. The resort has over 1000 guest rooms, 200 suites, and three pool areas, on 48 acres. Family-riendly eats include casual poolside Gatorville, and an ice cream parlor at a different pool. In the resort's main building is a deli and an indoor restaurant, St. Augustine's. Two cautions: be sure to get a room that faces the garden areas; guests in outer rooms might hear street noise. Also, the Web site's phrase "tropical paradise" suggests a lush Caribbean style-- not the right expectation. Location, location During a stay in June, we headed off early in the morning to Universal Studios' Islands of Adventure, then returned to the Wyndham for a mid-day break. In the afternoon, we were easily able to get back to the theme park in time to use two Express Passes we held for popular rides. Kids Club
Rooms & Rates Wyndham Webrates offer discounts up to 50%. A sample search for Wyndham Orlando rates turned up rooms for $116, suites for $146. Book up to three weeks in advance, and kids 18 and under stay free. Offseason rates can drop lower still. Note that Wyndham has other choices in Orlando, also: the Palace Resort & Spa at Walt Disney World, and Summerfield Suites at two locations.
