Gratuities (Tipping)

Disney Cruise Line - FAQ's

FAQ #2: What about gratuities / tipping?

Bear in mind that for cruise ship crew members, tipping is the major source of income; actual salary is very low. Some cruise lines are moving towards adding a flat fee to guests' onboard account, rather than leave the tip optional. (Read more about tipping practices.)

At time of writing, Disney Cruises are not adding obligatory "tips" to guests' accounts. (Always check for updates, though!) Guests are however expected to tip, and near the end of your cruise, you'll be provided with some convenient way to give gratuities. (You might receive envelopes for cash tips, or be instructed how to charge tips to your account.)

Below are recommended tipping amounts at time of writing:

>
Per Guest per cruise 3-Night 4-Night 7-Night
Dining Room Server 12.00 16.00 28.00
Dining Room Asst. Server 9.00 12.00 21.00
Dining Room Head Server 3.00 4.00 7.00
Stateroom Host/Hostess 12.00 16.00 28.00
Dining Manager Your Discretion
Room Service Your Discretion

In addition: "For your convenience, a 15% gratuity is automatically added to bar, beverage, wine, and deck service tabs. All gratuities can be charged to your room charge."

Check the Disney Cruise Line site for updates. Recommendations for gratuities are found in the "Onboard Services FAQ (- search for "What about gratuities").
