Our destination at Canada's real West Coast was the Pacific Sands Resort: a family-run beach-side establishment on spectacular Cox Bay, with many loyal return visitors.
Pacific Sands is great for families: many suites have kitchenettes, and there's also a number of cottages.

Cox Bay is one of a string of beautiful bays on Canada's real West Coast. Surfers brave the year-round.
My kids loved playing in the sand, and flying kites-- and we all wished we'd brought bikes to ride on the wide, wide spread of hard-packed sand.
Pacific Sands Resort is popular year-round: even in winter, people come for "storm-watching". (Storms mean rain in coastal BC, which enjoys a much milder climate than the rest of Canada.)

Young
guests receive plastic buckets so they can get right to work. |

Other nice touches at Pacific Sands included:
-fireplaces in suites
-fully-efficient kitchens
-Easter
Egg hunt! (seasonal)
-excellent (free) activity books for kids, full of info on coastal ecology
-raincoats in the closets for guests' use
Pacific Sands Resort is a ten-minute drive from the small, low-key town of Tofino. Pacific Rim National Park is a stone's throw away, with Long Beach and the West Coast Trail. Ucluelet, the other small town on the coast, is about 30 km from Pacific Sands.
The weather during our Easter weekend was dramatic: ten minutes of warm sun, ten minutes of blustery rain, more sun again...
|
Even a surprise pelting of hail.
After an exhilarating day on the beach, we had a cozy fire in our fireplace; and the next morning, woke for whale-watching.
