Small faces light up at the very word: and their excitement at that first snowfall, that first snowball, can make even grown-up parents feel like kids again.
Of course, those easily-enchanted toddlers soon turn into 'tweens and 'teens-- and guess what? Snow is still fun for them.
The two best things about family ski vacations are:
- there's snow fun for all ages
- even if you don't ski or snowboard you'll find lots to do; ski resorts offer tubing, snowshoeing, sleigh rides, tobogganing, family games night, bonfires, snow-mobiling, even dog-sledding. (And if you decide that now's the moment to learn to ski, you'll find plenty of group or private lessons.)
Ski resorts go to great lengths to woo families: with special kids programs, day camps, teen programs, novice terrain parks, even kids-only lifts and ski zones. Some resorts offer special family pricing, too, or "Kids Ski Free", sometimes for kids as old as ten or twelve.
