The Arizona Grand Resort -- just six miles from the Phoenix airport -- has two-room suites in attractive large units; challenging golf course; athletic club, Spa, tennis courts. It's a AAA Four-Diamond hotel (read: luxury), and -- at time of writing-- the only property with this ranking that's all-suites.

The big draw for families is the Oasis private water park, with wave pool, river float, kiddie pool, 25-person jacuzzi, and three giant waterslides. When we visited, the Oasis had so many lifeguards that parents of older kids could lay down on a lounge chair and relax while the kids dashed around.*

A bonus for guests is the giant municipal park a few paces away, with miles of hiking trails.
