The Gran Melia Cancun is part of Sol Melia, a worldwide company that has the Melia, Paradisus, and other brands.
Location is in Cancun's Hotel Zone, close to the shopping center, Kukulkan Plaza.
The Gran Melia Cancun is a large property with five distinctive pyramid-style towers; rooms have private balconies and views over either the Carribean or the Nichupte Lagoon. The resort has an exclusive 9-hole golf course.
Features at the Gran Melia Cancun:
- not an all-inclusive but all-inclusive meal plan is available
- gardens, 11-story atrium with walkways over goldfish ponds, five-acre pool, 5 restaurants, 1500 feet of white sand beach
- across the street is a marina with watersports available (snorkeling, jet skis, etc.)
- families may want to take a Junior Suite. (Note however, that in hotel parlance, a "junior suite" is one room divided into two areas.)
- Royal Service guests stay in deluxe rooms in Tower 5, with butler service, continental breakfast, cocktails, snacks, and an exclusive area with private pool and cabanas.*
What's special for families:
- the resort has a playground, and a children's play zone at one pool
- kids' club: miniclub for ages 5 to 12
Keep in mind about the Gran Cancun Melia:
- check for an all-inclusive meal plan
- otherwise, look for promotions, such as kids 12 and under receive 50% off food and beverage from kids menu (when dining with adults)
- an MAS card -- available at the Sol Melia web site-- confers some "frequent stayer" rewards (free breakfast, 2 for 1 buffets...)
