Wilderness Resort: background
The Wilderness Hotel and Golf Resort is in the indoor-waterpark capital of the world: Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, population 4000, a small town with a big name for waterparks. Many resorts have indoor and outdoor parks, and several public waterparks are open during summer. The cities nearest to Wisconsin Dells are Madison and Milwaukee.
Wilderness Resort: features for families
An expansion in 2006 added two new waterparks, for a total of 500,000 sq. ft., and the claim to be: "America's largest waterpark resort."
Accommodation ranges from hotel rooms and suites (some with fireplace) to villas, condos, rustin cabins. Some condo units can sleep nine.
Indoor waterparks include:
- Wild West Waterpark, 70,000 sq. ft.: with "The Surge" wave pool with water blasters; a five-person raft ride; and Ransack Ridge, a four-story play zone with cannons, blasters, slides; four speed slides
- Klondike Kavern Waterpark, 65,000 sq. ft.: waterslides, lazy river, kids' play area with play-and-spray features, waterfalls, smaller slides.
- Wild WaterDome, 65,000 sq. ft.: new in 2006; roof lets guests tan eyar-round; Dueling Mammoths family racing raft ride, through twisting tunnels (compete for prizes)
- Sulfur Springs "swim indoor to outdoor" pools and hot spas (year round)
Outdoor Waterparks:
During summer months you'll find nearly five acres of outdoor waterparks:
- Lake Wilderness Waterpark, 40,000 sq. ft.: signature feature is a giant pool; also, slides, kids wading pool, plunge pool, tube rides, waterplay features
Dry fun at the Wilderness Resort includes:
- 15,000 sq. ft. Northern Light Arcade
- 30,000 sq. ft Timberland Playhouse, a four-storey play zone with foam ball blasters, a ball fountain, crawl spaces, slides; special toddler zone
- OK Corral Lazer Tag Arena
- WildKids activities, many complimentary. (Sample, in summer: outdoor movies, crafts, kite-flying, bingo, contests, etc.)
- Polka Dot Pots make-your-own pottery
- two fitness centers; cross-country skiing in winter months.
Keep in mind about Wilderness Resort:
- this is a giant place: expect to do some walking to get to different waterparks (or take a shuttle)
- luxury Wilderness on the Lake has its own indoor and outdoor waterpark, plus access to all the waterparks at Wilderness Resort
- Wilderness Resort offers Nanny service:: a professional nanny comes to your room with a bag full of toys and crafts; parents get a beeper for contact. Rates vary with number of children.
