are tuning their instruments, dancers from Africa’s Ivory Coast
are practicing their steps, and in a forest in England, a small
mouse is packing his suitcase..." Pittsburgh
hosts acrobats puppets, music, theatre, dance from around the
world.

NH: International Children's Festival
(check for dates - usually third Saturday in
June)
On Main Street and a nearby playground, five stages mix
non-stop multicultural and children's entertainment. You'll also
find crafts and activities, petting zoo, pony rides -- over 250
activities and vendors.

International Children's Film Festival
(October)
Not a Children's Festival" in the sense of those above, but seems like an
interesting event nonetheless. Also check the "Young Chicago Critics"
kids camp in summer: you many even qualify for the Children's Jury of the film festival.

St. Paul, MN: Flint Hills International Children's Festival
(June)
Performers from around the world showcase puppetry,
drama, and dance at the Ordway Center; on the weekend tents in
Rice Park welcome families with butterflies, crafts, costumes,
more, and local and international artists perform on stage.

Houston
Children's Festival
(April)
Over 100,000 people attend "Houston's Official Family
Celebration", set in downtown Houston, and featuring 14 Family
Adventure Zones including extreme sport tricks, treasure hunt, big
top shows, Great American Barnyard, and more.
- Oklahoma
City: Chuck Wagon Gathering and Children's Cowboy Festival
(check for dates- has been Memorial Day weekend)
Fun includes an Old West Medicine Show, stagecoach and covered wagon rides,
good eats prepared by chuck wagon crews, and western
activities such as rope-making. This event is put on by the The National
Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.
- Los
Angeles: Feria de los Ninos- Children's Festival
(dates TBA- possibly Memorial Day weekend)
This annual event started in 1973 as a community celebration of
Hispanic culture and the accomplishments of children, with dance
groups, musicians, puppeteers, games, etc.
After some missed years due to lack of funding, the Festival has
been back since 1994. Year 2002 featured a tortilla making
contest, art exhibit, Xochimilco boats on the
lake, a volcano island, Desfile De Los Niños,
Luminarias on the Lake, Artisans at Work and a Family Sports and
Fun Zone.

BC International Children's Festival
(May)
Vancouverites are used to seeing huge colorful tents on the
waterfront at Vanier Park, not far from the city's core: this Festival
has been happening since 1978. the Festival features performers from
around the world, hands-on art activities, workshops on juggling
or stilt-walking, and special tents, sandbox, etc. for the youngest
kids.
