Easter 2013

By March 28, 2013

Follow me on:

Easter falls early in 2013, on Sunday March 31; many schools have at least a four-day weekend break, some stretch it out for a week, and for some schoolkids the long weekend supersizes their Spring Break. It's all a good chance for a getaway and families are likely to find Easter Egg Hunts and other fun wherever they go. Some cities have famous events, such as the Easter Parade in NYC or the annual Egg Roll at the White House in Washington DC. But most any city will have Easter egg hunts -- or maybe an egg safari, or a Rabbit Romp --at children's museums, zoos, and other local attractions. Tourist railroads make the most of the occasion as well, running a special Easter Bunny Express or even a Peanuts-themed Easter Beagle Express.

Easter is a great time to get out of town, and I love the beaches on Easter – North Myrtle Beach resorts usually have some great packages, and in late March it is usually in the sixties, almost in the seventies down there. I love this area in that time of year – before the big crowds come, and you can take a long walk on the beach. Plus, there’s the SkyWheel!

We have an Easter family tradition that started a few years ago. I take Good Friday off every year and we go on a short road trip to a resort called Rough Creek Lodge in Glen Rose, Texas — about 2 hours from where we live in Dallas. They do a great job of wrapping up all the Easter fun – egg hunts, baby chicks, the Easter Bunny, and of course Easter brunch. It’s been a great time for the entire family 3 years and counting.
