Speaking of Presidents Week (below)... About.com's site for National and State Parks offers some background about the holiday, plus some suggestions for a number of presidential places to visit, such as the annual birthday celebrations at the George Washington Birthplace National Monument in Virginia. This is a great place for families at any time of year, with Ranger tours, Junior Ranger programs for kids, a nature trail, and a "living history" approach that includes a "Living Colonial Farm" with heritage livestock. Kids might even see costumed characters doing chores and crafts.
