This family-oriented theme park in Connecticut is America's oldest amusement park, dating back to 1846, and it still has some old-fashioned rides on its 325 acres, such as a giant ferris wheel and antique carousel.
But families will find thrill rides and wild roller coasters too, and also the latest and greatest in waterslides as part of a major expansion of the water park area. The new Riptide Racer has four racing lanes, intertwining dark tunnels, some crazy dips and a last "stomach-dropping plunge".
If that sounds like your kind of fun, read more about the Lake Compounce family theme park (which, by the way, was mentioned here recently because its special efforts to help families living with autism.) The water park is free with theme park admission.
