Staycation Tips

Lots of families these days are opting out of road trips (gas prices!) and summer air travel (stress!), and sticking close to home. Remember, though, that a "staycation" doesn't mean life-as-usual. The point is to have fun, relax, and enjoy family together-time. All this is easier said than done when you're staying in your own home: it's so easy to fall into regular patterns of busy activities, seeing friends, and using electronic media.

Make a plan to enjoy some family outings, and go do the sightseeing that tourists do. Eat out together, maybe somewhere fun and inexpensive where kids eat free.

If finances permit, a good strategy is to take the family to a nearby hotel: still staying local with no need for expensive travel, yet getting away from the patterns of home. Maybe even splurge on one of the hotels that offers special kids programs.

And even if you stay right in your house, make sure to truly step out of the everyday busyness and into vacation time. See more about staycation tips.
