Villa Saint Exupery Gardens, a hostel in Nice, France.
Many families would love to take a trip to Europe with their kids, but fear the cost... But a wonderful thing about travel in Europe is that budget travel is totally respectable. Meanwhile, hostels have been changing, and many now welcome families with private "family rooms", perhaps even with a private ensuite bathroom too. (And even if the bathrooms are shared, they're typically spotless and convenient- and of course you can check for recent comments online.)
Hostels have other good points besides low price: they're friendly places, a nice feature when traveling with kids, and often they're housed in character buildings -- as in the photo above. Often, breakfast is included and can be a friendly meal with fellow guests; sometimes dinners are available, too.
