Australia... A once in a life-time trip? I think not. More than one visit will be needed for this vast destination.
How vast? Well, just in the more populated east side of the country, Melbourne is 1000 km (over 650 miles) from Sydney, which is 950km south of Brisbane, and 2400 km south of Cairns, the main airport town for the Great Barrier Reef. Meanwhile Perth, on the west coast, is 4000 km away.
Having traveled so far to Australia, most international visitors make stops in more than part of the continent. There's much to be said for starting in the middle of Australia's eastern edge, in the Gold Coast and Brisbane area.
