Disneyphiles got a bouquet of good news this month, much of it delivered at D23 Expo, a major bash for Disney fans.

And very cool freebies in 2010, called Give a Day, Get a Disney Day: a million volunteers in the US and Canada get free theme park tix for doing community good deeds.

- Fantasyland Expansion at Disney World: Fantasyland -- in the Magic Kingdom theme park at Disney World, and the most magical area for little kids-- will double in size, in two phases due to open in 2012 and 2013. Expect state-of-the-art "richer, more immersive experiences" -- read more, from About.com's Guide for Theme Parks, who has a photo gallery about the new Fantasyland, too.
And if you're wondering where Mickey will build all this new fun, the answer is Toontown, an area adjacent to Fantasyland;Toontown does have a couple of classic rides that will be relocated elsewhere in the park.
- Star Tours II: the current Star Tours attractions at both Disney World and Disneyland will close in October 2010, in order to get a complete makeover and reopen in 2011. See a video preview at our Theme Parks site.
- Give a Day, Get a Disney Day: one million volunteers who do a day of service at a participating organization in their community will get a free one-day ticket to a theme park at Walt Disney World or Disneyland Resort in California. A few points to note:
-registration starts Jan. 1 2010
-the person who registers must be at least 18, and can sign up 8 family members
-volunteers must be at least 6, and an adult must accompany kids age 6 to 17
-the volunteer opportunities are coordinated by HandsOn Network
-free theme park tix must be used by Dec 15 2010 and have some blackout dates
