Still Spring Skiing...
Wednesday April 1, 2009
Most ski mountains close down mid-April, but a few keep going for an extra month (or more.) Four notables are:
- Sunshine Village - near Banff in the Canadian Rockies, (photo, right), stays open well into May; lots of terrain above the tree line; stunning views of mountain peaks.
- Whistler- Blackcomb BC, near Vancouver, BC: awesome ski resort with nearly a mile of vert; site of the 2010 Olympics. Blackcomb Mountain stays open into June!
- Mammoth Mountain --in California, 5 hours from LA-- just won't quit; season usually lasts 'til end of May (at least).
- Snowbird: one of the wonderful ski resorts near Salt Lake City, Snowbird stays open daily into May and on weekends until Memorial Day (at least.)

Great shot of Sunshine Village…it was like that up there yesterday, clear and mild. This is my favorite time of year for skiing, the snow is always great! Hard to believe still a month left of skiing.
