Giving Back, for Family Vacationers

Friday December 19, 2008
For those who've vacationed in tropical countries this year: now's a good time to remember the hardship that often lies outside the charmed circles of the resorts. Your kids may even have noticed signs of poverty and wanted to help somehow.

Below are some ways to help that kids can easily understand. Give to a "Children's Village", for orphaned kids; give an animal -- pig, goat, duck -- that can feed a family or help earn cash. Sponsor a child in the DR, which is such a popular spot for all-inclusive holidays.

Thanks so much for this info. I’m traveling to Mexico next month with friends. She is going to be taking along some school supplies for a family she met last year. Your timely reminder about people in other countries are less fortunate has reminded me to pack something on my trip. Now I have some ideas where to find needs in the area I will be visiting.
