The Mouse can't actually welcome animal pals into the theme parks, but dogs and cats are welcome at certain places in the 47 sq. mile expanse of Walt Disney World. In the past, pets could stay at several kennels; in the future, they can luxuriate in a "full-service, luxury pet resort".
Best Friends Pet Care Inc. will build and operate this facility, which will offer dog and cat boarding, day care, and grooming. Guests at Disney World resorts or theme parks can take pets there, as can employees of WDW. The lucky canines and felines can while away the day with nature walks, playgroups, and treats, before settling in with bedtime stories, tv (!) and raised bedding in their luxury suites. Look for a mid-2009 opening date. Best Friends will also take over operations of the five existing pet boarding facilities at Disney World, located at each of the theme parks and at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground.
