But (I hate to say it) the coral reefs of the world are suffering from many threats, including climate change. "Coral bleaching", for example -- the strangely whitish coral, often seen on snorkeling outings-- is a growing phenomena, and higher temperatures in the seas is a major cause.
2008 is the International Year of the Reef, and you can read about the status of the world's coral reefs at the International Year of the Reef site. The CORAL Reef Alliance is another source of info. For example, have you ever been on a snorkeling outing, and seen people dump food in the sea to attract fish? That's a no-no; the CORAL reef site explains about fish-feeding.
