Where are you gonna be, for the parades and fireworks?

photo courtesy of Walt Disney WorldMemorial Day in the U.S. (May 26 2008) has a sober purpose -- to remember those who've died in war-- but it also kicks off the summer- time: many cities have parades and festivals, and resorts and hotels offer weekend packages. Six weeks later, some cities go all out for the Fourth of July, Independence Day, especially with fireworks.

Quite a few towns celebrate the Summer Solstice, too (- June 21, in the northern hemisphere). Boston has free SummersDay Revels, Alaska and Scandinavia celebrate the midnight sun... Check out:
