Come Fly With Me

Tuesday January 15, 2008
family fun places - go flying in a wind-tunnelCall it "bodyflight" or "vertical wind tunnel", you -- and your kids, and your grandmother-- can fly, and the price starts at $27 for beginner flights.

It happens in an indoor vertical wind tunnel: gigantic fans create winds that whoosh people upwards in a smooth airflow; you can float, roll, flip, flap your wings...

A number of places are offering bodyflight (including a spot we've already covered, at CityWalk at the Universal Studios Hollywood theme park.) Now the "world's largest bodyflight center" has opened in North Carolina, in Raeford (1-1/2 hours south of Raleigh): Paraclete XP SkyVenture. The circular wind tunnel is a roomy 16.5' wide; no experience necessary, training included; family packages available; and anyone (over two) in good health can fly.

  • Read more about catching some serious air, at the Paraclete site. Cool videos, too.
