Okay, now you really can fly...

Friday November 23, 2007
family fun places - go flying in a wind-tunnel And zoom up 30 feet high, and roll and flip in the air... And so can your kids.

In the "what'll they think of next" department: now you, and your children over three years old, can fly. And the price starts at $39.95.

It's happening at "iFLY Hollywood", which is at Universal CityWalk (the open-to-the-public entertainment zone attached to Universal Hollywood theme park, in southern California.)

Yes, You Can Fly - at iFLY Hollywood

flyingBasically, you've got your indoor vertical wind tunnel, where two giant electric fans create winds of more than 125 miles/hour, and those winds whoosh people as high as 30 feet. The tunnel's made out of a sheet of clear acrylic: flap your wings and enjoy the view.

Actually, though, rather than flap, you'll probably want to do flips and turns and cool aerial body moves.

Certified sky-diving instructors provide training beforehand, and the fledgling "sky-divers" wear authentic sky-diving gear (- no parachute, though). Fliers can try some aerial manoeuvers if they're in the mood; though you might need to wait until your second try, for that. (iFLY sells packages.) Guests get a Certificate after their "flight".

As for age restrictions, iFLY says: "we fly people from 3 to 104 years old. iFLY is the ideal experience for family outings." Grandparents, parents, teens, and kids can go; and yes, they do birthday parties, and Family Packages.
