Deals in the Caribbean - to offset passport costs

Wednesday November 29, 2006
Sounding another warning bell about New Passport Requirements for US Citizens: starting January 23 2007*, adults and children will all need passports for air travel to and from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Panama, Mexico and Canada, in order to re-enter the US.

The fee to obtain a US passport is $97 for ages 16 and older, $87 for ages 15 and less-- which adds quite a whallop to the cost of a family vacation.

To ease this pain, and keep travelers coming, many resorts are offering promotions. SuperClubs -- an all-inclusive chain with family-friendly Breezes and Starfish resorts-- is reimbursing passport costs; budget-friendly Viva Wyndham all-inclusives in the DR and Mexico are offering discounts; Sunset Beach Resort in Jamaica (whose waterpark is pictured, left) is offering resort credits. Other resorts in Jamaica have similar promotions.

I can’t say that I’m surprised by this but its good to know considering that I’m planning on a trip early in the second quarter of the coming year. As a travel agent its always good to keep up with these things.
