Family Travel Idea: Dominica "Pirates of the Caribbean"

Tuesday August 15, 2006
PiratesDominica -- not to be confused with the Dominican Republic-- is one of the least-known islands in the Caribbean; visitors tend to come for unspoiled beauty and outings in the rainforest.

Many scenes from the second Pirates of the Caribbean movie "Dead Man's Chest" were filmed on the island, and not surprisingly a number of packages and tours are now being offered which showcase locations used in the film.

Dominica: "Pirates of the Caribbean" Packages

Several hotels and attractions on Dominica have packages for travelers to visit places where scenes from the movie were filmed.

  • Garraway Hotel: “Pirate Pearl Family Package”: July to Oct. 23, Nov. 8 to Dec. 23, 2006; five nights accommodation with two double beds, welcome drink, transfers, etc., $1100, two adults, two kids.
  • Wacky Rollers Adventure Park is re-erecting the rope-style bridge used in the film; it will span a river that guests can also cross on a 200-ft. zip line.
