Family Vacation Idea: Georgia

Sunday May 1, 2005
Just 15 miles from Atlanta, 3200-acre Stone Mountain Park is Georgia's number-one tourist attraction, with woods, lakes, Skylift, old-fashioned town, waterslides, Lasershow, riverboat, and more.

20 Marriott hotels are offering a Family Escape Package that includes attraction tickets for Stone Mountain Park: two properties are located right in the Park; the others are in the Atlanta area.

Stone Mountain Park

The 3200-acre Stone Mountain Park is a state park 15 miles from Atlanta, with a number of attractions (see below), and also the largest outcropping of exposed granite in the world-- which, incidentally, has the world's largest sculpture, a gigantic Confederate Memorial.

Attractions include:

  • Crossroads: 1870’s replica of a Southern town, where families can meet fascinating characters in period dress who work the old trades
  • Mountaintop Skylift, an 825-foot climb
  • for kids, Treehouse Challenge
  • the Great Barn: 1870's Barn with four floors of rope nets, mazes, slides, etc.
  • “Scarlett O’Hara” authentic riverboat
  • waterslides including the Mountain Screamer
  • Scenic Railroad
  • Antebellum Plantation & Farmyard
  • Golf Course
  • Stone Mountain Tennis Center
