California: Queen Anne Hotel, San Francisco

Valentine’s Day package includes a guest room with two queen beds, a wood-burning fireplace, Godiva chocolates, fresh flowers, continental breakfast, morning paper, high-speed Internet, afternoon tea and sherry for $256.50 nightly including tax. Children stay free in parent’s room.

Colorado: Spring Cottage, Manitou Springs,
Lord of the Rings fans will like the My Precious! My Precious! Package. Enter through the round doorway, then look for the precious gold ring hidden in the cottage. If you find the ring, the reward is a return for a free stay. Throughout February, cottages come with popcorn and soft drinks to watch your private free showing of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. February rates are $95 nightly, children (all ages), $15 per child extra.

Pennsylvania: Sheep Hill B&B and Antiques, East Earl, PA
Spend some time with the Amish to find out about their ways and customs. The February Valentine package includes a tour of Lapp Valley Farm -- an Amish milking farm -- complete with homemade ice cream. Next, clip-clop through the Pennsylvania Dutch countryside in an Amish horse and buggy, and end the day with a family- style dinner with an Amish family. Add $45 per person (no matter what age) to room rates of $85-95 for the package; children of all ages are welcome.

The Valentine’s Day package for $450.00 for two includes lodgings for two nights, gourmet dinner, hot breakfast, homemade dessert, fresh flowers and chocolates; $30 for each additional person.

Virginia: Bay View Waterfront B&B, Belle Haven, VA:
Visit the Assateague National Seashore to see the famed wild ponies, and to collect seashells. The whole family will be comfortable in a two-room suite, with a queen bed and fireplace in one room and twin beds in the other, for $175 per night.

Washington: Holly Lane Gardens, Bainbridge Island, WA
Stay Valentine’s Day weekend, and join the innkeeper in her candle factory to dip taper candles and decorate them with wax hearts. All guests will receive the pair they decorate. Children under 10 stay free in parents’ room and can participate in the taper dipping. Nominal fee for children over 10. Rates $75-125 nightly.
