Kids can hike, bike, go paintballing, or ride horses while visiting Jack Frost and Big Boulder mountains in the Poconos; or take a family Fall Foliage train ride on a historic railroad (--2004 is its last year.)

Jack Frost and Big Boulder

Jack Frost and Big Boulder Mountains are in the Poconos mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania, about 1-1/2 hours from Philadelphia and 2 hours from NYC.

Fully equipped vacation homes are available for rental, priced from $135 to $325; a Fall Special offers townhouses-- with fireplace and kitchen -- at $42.75 per person/per night (based on quad occupancy.)

Lodgings are a short walk to a lake; activities in the area include hiking, biking, paintballing, Traxx Motorsports Park, whitwater rafting, horseback riding.

Parents will like the historic town of Jim Thorpe; and kids will probably like Jim Thorpe too because of of its Rail Tours. Price is low for a 35 Minute, 8 Mile Round Trip From Jim Thorpe Train Station to Nesquehoning and back to Jim Thorpe. Or try a longer Flaming Fall Foliage train ride: 2-1/2 hours, 33-miles round trip from Jim to Thorpe station to Hometown Trestle.

The Fall Foliage trip is offered throughout October, and this would be a good year to try it because 2004 is the last year, in fact: the end of an era, which began in 1888.

After finding our certificates after 5 years, we were told the would not accept them. We had them valued at 70.00 each. There was 2 of and no expiration date on them. Big Boulder and Jack Frost had explained to us that a new company now owns them and will not accept any old paper certificates. I have a combined family of Five children and was only wanting to go freakin tubing. AS FAR AS I’M CONCERNED SOMBODY RIPPED US OFF FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO USE $140.00 of My families money. BIG BOULDER / JACK FROST SUCKS!
